Senggigi Beach

Senggigi, located on the western coast of Lombok, is the main tourist strip of the island. Unwind and relax on the beach while witnessing spectacular sunsets, or get active and try the various watersport activities offered here – windsurfing, snorkeling, waterskiing, canoeing, to playing beach volleyball. Treat yourself to a spa, enroll in a cooking class, shop for souvenirs in the art market, and indulge your taste buds in the many restaurants serving local and international food spread across the area. Just a little over an hour from the airport and half an hour from the city of Mataram, Senggigi is also the perfect base for exploring other parts of Lombok.

Pusuk Monkey Forest

Travel up north from Senggigi through the winding road surrounded by green foliage leading to Pusuk Monkey Forest. The nature conservation area is a lush tropical forest with wonderful views, and also the natural habitat of hundreds of grey monkeys. Slow down, or even get off your vehicle and go for a nice walk where you can see the monkeys up close and feed them. These are wild monkeys but they are used to people and therefore pretty tame (but please still be cautious!). After meeting the monkeys, make a stop at nearby Pasar Kuliner Pusuk Pass (culinary market) to catch a break, grab a bite, and try the traditional local drink, tuak manis.

Pura Batu Bolong

Pura Batu Bolong is a small but scenic Hindu temple perched on top of a rocky outcrop by the sea, around 2km south of Senggigi. Its unique feature is the big natural hole on the rock underneath the temple, hence the name (“batu bolong” means rock with a hole). Facing Lombok’s neighbouring island, Bali, it’s a favourite spot to watch the sunset, where you can see the sun dipping down behind Bali’s holy Mount Agung, creating a dramatic view. You can also visit Pura Batu Bolong during Hindu festival times, when colourful ceremonies are held.

Gili Islands

The famed trio of Gili islands have something for everyone: taste the local culture and have a quality time with your family in Gili Air, have a secluded romantic getaway in Gili Meno, or party and have crazy fun in Gili Trawangan. All three also offer picturesque beaches and attractive underwater scenery. These islands, located off the northwest coast of Lombok, are just a short boat ride away from Senggigi. The closest port to the Gilis is Bangsal harbour, about 30 minutes from Senggigi, where you can catch public boats with the locals. Other options are to take a fast boat from Teluk Nara, or rent an outrigger boat straight from the beachfront in Senggigi. If you don’t have much time, an island-hopping/snorkeling/diving daytrip is definitely doable.
